Cinder
Cinder is another book by Marissa Meyer, who I think is a really great author, and the first book in the Lunar Chronicles. It takes place, for the most part in future Beijing, and it's all about how the Lunars (people living on the moon) infected the people on earth with the plague and will only give them the cure if the newly crowned king- Kai agrees to a marriage alliance. Only one person- Princess Selene can defeat the evil Queen Levena and take her place on the throne saving the people of earth. But Princess Selene is believed to have died until Kai decides to find her. Meanwhile, he meets the cyborg mechanic, Cinder and is attracted to her. Cinder doesnt tell him that she is a cyborg, fearing that he'll be repulsed.
But then, Cinder is taken in as a test subject, (they are testing on cyborgs to try and find a cure to the plague) and they find out that she is immune to the plague. The scientist who tested on her (Dr. Erland), tells her that he is Lunar, and based on her results, she is Lunar too. He wants to continue testing on her to try and find a cure to save the people.
Just as she is processing this new information, Cinder receives a tip from a girl, saying that Kai plans to announce his engagement to the Queen Levena at a ball he is hosting, for the sake of saving his people. Cinder knows that Queen Levena will kill him and take over once they are married, so she crashes the ball hoping to save Kai. But her plans go wrong when instead, Kai discovers that she is cyborg and Lunar, and Queen Levena demands that she be imprisoned.
However, Dr. Erland visits her in prison, and presents her with even more disturbing knowledge- that she is the long lost Princess Selene, and he gives her the means to escape the prison with the offer of joining him in Africa to trying to find a cure to the plague. (End of book one).

I would give this book a rating of 9, and would recommend it to anybody looking for a book that has science fiction, twisted fairy tales, romance, and action. The rest of the series includes the books: Scarlet, Cress, Winter, and Fairest (Fairest gives a bit of insight to Queen Levena's life). I enjoyed reading the series, although I found Scarlet to be the most boring book ( I stopped reading halfway then picked it up again a few weeks later). But, once I'd made my way through that, the rest of the series, especially Winter, was really interesting.
I would also recommend reading other books by Merissa Meyer, like Renegades (which I'd posted about before), and Heartless (which I'm halfway through reading now. She mainly writes science fiction and teen fantasy, and Lunar chronicles is her first series, followed by Heartless.
