One of Us is Lying

This is the first mystery book I'm doing a post on. The novel was written by Karen M. McManus, and it is about five teenagers who walk into detention one day, and only four make it out. Simon, a boy who runs a blog called About That- a gossip app that's ruined a lot of lives. Cooper, Addy, Bronwyn, and Nate all have secretsthey don't want Simon to blog about, and when Simon is killed, the police is convinced that it's one of them. Everybody's got secrets- but who would go the farthest to keep theirs? Only, as the four of them grow closer, their secrets get out- Addy's boyfriend breaks up with her, Cooper's dad won't even look him in the eye, Bronwyn is labelled a cheater, and Nate is arrested when evidence is planted against him. And... they begin to trust each other.
Bronwyn who trusts Nate, sets out to get him a lawyer, and thanks to Addy's investigating, the truth comes out. I won't say what happens at the end, because the surprise of reading it is something else, and also, I don't like spoilers. But, I guess if you're an expert, you might be able to solve this- I couldn't though, even though I'm obsessed with mystery novels and movies.

My favourite character in this book is probably Bronwyn, just because she's the one I can relate to the most. Also, she was the first one to try and prove that it wasn't one of them who killed Simon. She was also willing to give Nate another chance at the end of the book, and was the first one to trust him. Also, I admired how her character actually admitted her mistake to the public at the end of the book.
To me, however, while the characters seemed really stereotypical in the beginning (a nerd, a criminal, a jock, and a beauty princess) they began to gather more depth throughout the book, and it was interesting watching their characters develop. If I were to give the book a rating it would probably be an 8.7.
This is because I really enjoyed reading the book. It was well- written, and flowed nicely. The only part I didn't like was how Addy's ex- boyfriend got involved in the plot, because even though it started to make sense, it still felt a little off- base to me. Still, it was a decent book, and I would recommend reading it- even if you aren't mystery obsessed like me.
A little bit about the author is this: She is a single mom, the book Hunger Games initially encouraged her to write young adult fiction. She lives in Massachusetts, and has a degree in journalism. One of Us is Lying is her debut novel, and is number four on New York bestsellers.
This is what her sequel to One of Us is Lying looks like (it will be published January 2020):

P.S. I think the name One of Us is Lying is such a good title, because a) it's catchy and b) it gives the reader a certain perspective about the book.
